Four Business Issues
by Myrna Marofsky, President, ProGroup, Inc.®
Myrna Marofsky1. Recruitment and retention of diverse talent—The ability to stay competitive and to attract diverse customers relies on the intellectual capital and talent within the workforce. By now we all know that this talent comes from individuals with a wide variety of backgrounds, cultures, and experiences. We also know that getting these individuals into our organizations and keeping them is the number one diversity challenge.

2. Expanding market penetration into the multicultural marketplace—The evidence is compelling. New and emerging markets are out there waiting for savvy marketers to capture. Those who make inroads have the knowledge and competency to address cultural nuances and build community partnerships.

3. Improving productivity and increasing satisfaction of the employee base—Economic pressures have forced organizations to recognize that people are their most important asset. If these employees are not being fully utilized or do not feel like they have been given the opportunity to work to their full potential, they do one of two things: They quit and leave or they quit and stay.

4. Delivering culturally competent service—There are amazing challenges that result from trying to maintain a high level of service to all customers, patients, consumers, guests, and clients. It's not easy, and it is even more difficult when those on both sides of the service situation are culturally different. The cost of ignoring this can be significant. At ProGroup, we call this "The Cost of Intolerance."
